Dr. John Chope, BDS, BSc, MFGDP UK, LDS RCS Eng: Dentist (GDC Registration Number: 46517)
John Chope started the dental practice in 1974 and has guided it through many changes since then, keeping it right up to date with the latest clinical knowledge, techniques and facilities. John's primary dental interest is providing all round comprehensive general dental care for all the family and he is never happier than when working in the practice looking after his patients. He has a special interest in complex endodontics and helping exceptionally nervous patients.
John trained as a neurophysiologist as well as a dentist and worked as an Associate Professor on research at the Medical College of Virginia in the USA. He also worked as a Senior Lecturer at Khartoum Medical School. Whilst there he helped found the first (and still only) dental school in Sudan.
John was an elected member of the General Dental Council of the UK for 15 years and a professional member of their Investigating Committee for six years. He is an expert professional member of the Ministry of Justice First Tier Tribunal for England and Wales. John is also retained as a forensic expert medico-legal examiner and witness for civil injury claims. He was UK Chairman of the Confederation of Dental Employers for 10 years. He is also a hypnotherapist and a local JP. John is in much demand for various charity events around Hartland with his gruesome splat-the-rat machine which looks like it has escaped from the French Revolution.

Lisa Dawe RDN, OHE: Dental Nurse
(GDC Registration Number: 160947)
Lisa first joined the practice as a student dental nurse in 1988. As one of the practice's longest serving members of staff, she divides her time between the dental practice and being on the road with The Midwest Devon Dental Domiciliary Service. Lisa is a very experienced Registered Dental Nurse and is also a qualified Oral Health Educator. Lisa, with a group of friends, supports the Ronald Macdonald charity which provides free accommodation for families of children who are receiving hospital treatment. They have adopted a room at the charity’s Bristol house. Each room costs approximately £500 a month to keep running. To help with this, one of Lisa’s intrepid exploits was a tandem skydive in April 2006.
