The Cost of Domiciliary Dentistry

The Domiciliary Service is free of charge, but normal NHS charges apply to any treatments carried out. Under the NHS a course of treatment falls in to one of three bands:

  • Band 1 – £25.80
    • This covers an examination, diagnosis (eg X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, hand scaling and application of fluoride varnish of fissure sealant.

Please note this payment will be collected at the initial visit.

  • Band 2 – £70.70:
    • This covers everything listed in Band 1 above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or if your dentist needs to take out one or more of your teeth.
  • Band 3 – £306.80
    • This covers everything listed in Band 1 and Band 2 above, plus crowns, dentures, and bridges

Cash, cheques or credit card payments are accepted. Cheques are payable to “Holsworthy Dental Centre”.

Exemptions and Help with Costs

Some NHS patients are entitled to either full or partial exemption from charges. If you think you may qualify, please ask.

When we attend for your Domiciliary NHS dental appointment, we will ask you either to provide evidence of exemption from NHS dental charges or to pay the relevant fee. If you think you may be exempt from charges but cannot produce the necessary evidence, we will ask you to pay the full fee at your first appointment in the normal way. You will be able to claim back what you have paid if you are eligible. Wherever possible we will advise you in advance of the NHS fee which is payable at the next appointment.

You are entitled to exemption from charges if:

  • you’re included in an award of Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Pension Credit guarantee credit
  • you’re named on, or entitled to, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
  • you’re named on a valid HC2 certificate

If you’re named on a valid HC3 certificate, you may not have to pay for all your NHS dental treatment.

You will NOT be exempt from paying for NHS dental treatment because you receive one of the benefits below when paid on their own:

  • Incapacity Benefit
  • contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Pension Credit savings credit ”
